Centred on Aboriginal people’s experiences, From Another View re-frames John Forrest’s 1874 exploratory trek and its enduring legacy in Western Australia. From a Traditional Owners’ perspective, how can you explore something that is already known and has been known for 65,000 years?
Like many colonial explorers, John Forrest believed that the interior of Western Australia and South Australia was ‘unknown’. This Eurocentric view led John Forrest to undertake numerous exploratory journeys. His 1874 trek from Geraldton to Adelaide to locate the watershed of the Murshison River, is the focus of an educational program and three exhibitions between May and July 2019.
